Champaign Criminal Defense Lawyer

My name is Harvey C. Welch, and I have been defending individuals accused of crimes for more than 30 years.

DUI Defense Attorney for Bloomington, Champaign and Rantoul

My story is a little different from other criminal defense lawyers. I never served as a prosecutor, as many do. Having something of a rebellious streak, I have always taken the side of the accused, the underdog. From the day I passed the bar, I have worked only on defense, concentrating on the kinds of criminal offenses that are common in the city — property crimes, drug offenses, DUI, juvenile offenses and crimes of violence.

One-Time Lead Counsel for the Capital Defense Bar

For many years, I was lead counsel for the Illinois Capital Defense Bar. This was an elite group of attorneys who defended people accused of capital murder. With the abolition of capital punishment in Illinois, this group disbanded, but I continue to take heavy-duty cases, including murder one. Such cases are challenging because so much is at stake. I am proud of the results I have obtained over the years, and my clients and their families always stop me on the street to say thank you one more time.

Drug Crimes • Sex Crimes • Weapons Offenses •Juvenile Crimes

I bring the same discipline and clarity to lesser crimes such as DUI, underage drinking and possession of marijuana. I defend people across east-central Illinois, including university students and minors. I can help you, too.

If you have been charged with a crime, I urge you to contact my office immediately. Before you talk to the police, put an experienced lawyer in your corner, advising you and charting a strategy that will protect your rights and freedoms.
